Kenya has a rich and diverse culture, made up of traditions and customs, music, dance and arts. The people of Kenya are a warm and friendly people and are known to be group-oriented; the extended family is the foundation of their social structure which includes relatives from both sides of the family and even close friends. There are 42 different ethnic groupings in Kenya - each of these with its own unique culture that is how rich and diverse the culture here is. This ten day safari will show you every detail of the friendly Kenyan people, their lifestyle and heritage.
Day 1: Nairobi – Masai Mara Game Reserve
Depart from Nairobi and drive through the view point of the Great Rift Valley to the Masai Mara National Reserve. This enormous reserve is actually part of the vast Serengeti plains famously known for its spectacular great wildebeest’s migration and is home of the Big Five: Lion, Elephant, Leopard, Buffalo and Rhino. Lunch at the Lodge/camp and relax before departing for the afternoon game drive. The Mara Game Reserve one of the greatest wildernesses of the world. Large mammals are varied and easy to see. The wild animals found in the Park's are: Masai Giraffe, Buffalo, Eland and thousands of plain game including Impala, Zebra, both Thomson's and grants Gazelles.
Day 2: Full day exploring Masai Mara Game Reserve
Full day spent for viewing the great predators and explore the parks amazingly high concentration of wild animals. During the stay we visit a village of the Masai people to witness the singing and dancing that are part of their daily lives and sacred rituals. A glimpse into their homes and social structure is a lifetime experience. Dinner and overnight at the lodge/camp.
Day 3: Masai Mara – Lake Naivasha
Early morning game drive then return to the camp for the breakfast and depart for Lake Naivasha located in the Great Rift Valley. Lunch is provided en route. Dinner and overnight at the camp/lodge.
Day 4: Hell’s Gate National Park Naivasha – Kisumu
An extensive early morning game drive in Hell’s gate National park. Hell's Gate National Park lies to the south of Lake Naivasha. The park which is mainly comprised of savannah ecosystem harbors a wide variety of wildlife and birdlife. Some of the frequently observed animal species include; African buffalo, zebra, eland, hartebeest, Thomson's gazelle, and baboons are also common. The park is also home to klipspringer antelope and Chanler's mountain reedbuck. Other activities that can be done here includes; Raptor nesting in cliffs, Spectacular Gorge walk, Hot springs, The Olkaria Geothermal Station, The MervynCarnelley Raptor Hide, Fischer’s Tower, Tourist circuits, nature trails and picnic sites. An early lunch served in Naivasha and leave for Kisumu passing through Kericho known for tea plantation. You will arrive in Kisumu in the evening to witness the magical African sunset over Lake Victoria. Dinner and overnight in Kisumu
Day 5: Kisumu
After breakfast, the cultural holiday proceeds with a visit to the impala game park for the antelopes, ostriches, hyenas and hippos. You will also take a city tour; visit Kisumu Museum, Kibuye Market – a large open air market, Kibuye Catholic Church – the oldest in the region. Later in the evening you will take a boat ride in Lake Victoria and return to your hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Kisumu – Nyajuok Village
After your breakfast drive out of Kisumu to Nyajuok Village. This is the heart of this safari. You will arrive around 10am. On arrival you will be welcomed with traditional dance and songs from the locals. After the welcome, you will settle down for an early traditional lunch followed by a short naming ceremony where you will be given a local name. Here you will learn how naming of children was being done. You will have time to relax and bond with the local hosts. Later in the afternoon you will take a walk around the village, where you will have an opportunity to meet the locals and learn from them. Return back in the evening for your dinner. After dinner you will be entertained to traditional songs or story telling around bonfire while watching the beautiful stars in the sky. After this session you will be free to leave for your beds.
Day 7: Nyajuok Village
After a hearty traditional breakfast, take a walk to the river (River Yala – Permanent River and the source of water for the locals here). You will have an opportunity to see the locals tilting their farms while others fetching water from this river. Several species of birds awaits along the way. You may also see the monkeys around the river banks. Return back home and relax waiting for your lunch. After lunch you will take a ride to the prominent Kogello Village, the ancestoral home of the US President Barrack Obama. You will stay around Mama Sarah Obama, the grand mother of Barrack while she tells her story and that of the president. Leave the village in the evening for Ting’wang’i Market centre where you have a chance to meet with the locals as they go about their day to day trading activities. Return back home for your dinner and story telling sessions.
Day 8: Nyajuok Village
After breakfast, you will have a chance to visit the local dispensary (Ting’wang’i Medical Dispensary. Return back home for lunch. After lunch you will head to Nyajuok primary or secondary school to have a taste of the education system in the country. You will meet with both the teachers and students alike. Return back home in the evening for your dinner.
Day 9: Nyajuok Village – Lake Nakuru
Today marks you last day in the village, After breakfast you will be entertained with the traditional songs and dances. You will be given some presents from the host and it will be time to say bye to the host and leave your Africa. If you have some gifts or tips for the host, this will be an ideal time to give it out. You will then depart to Lake Nakuru. We will have a stop over in Kisumu or Kericho for lunch and then head straight to Lake Nakuru. You will arrive in the evening, check in your hotel and settle down for your dinner.
Day 10: Lake Nakuru – Nairobi
After breakfast proceed for the morning game drive in Lake Nakuru National park then depart for Nairobi arriving in the afternoon.
